Committees & Taskforces

NASW Oregon Chapter Committees conduct business in the areas of governance, policy, programs/services and revenue and are recognized as standing committees of the Board of Directors.  Joining a Committee is a great opportunity for networking, leadership development, professional growth and helping to strengthen the Chapter.

Continuing Education Committee

Meets mostly via email to review request for NASW approval for continuing education events for social workers in Oregon.

Diversity Taskforce

A newly reactivated taskforce with the goal of promoting and integrating diversity within NASW Oregon Chapter’s activities, program planning, allocation of resources, and governance.

Ethics Committee

Reviews common ethical concerns/dilemmas and provides consultations to members.  Also plans educational events related to ethics and responds to complaints against NASW members.

Finance Committee

Responsible for the oversight of the fiduciary needs of NASW Oregon Chapter, including preparation of the Chapter’s annual budget and monitoring investments.

Chapter Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification

Legislative Committee

The Chair is proactive in advocating for social work/social services concerns, works with the Chapter Executive Director, lobbyist(s), and Legislative Committee in determining legislative priorities; assists in drafting legislation; planning the legislative education and advocacy day and other legislative training; and coordinates monitoring bills and testimonies during legislative session.The Committee assists the Chair in carrying out the work of the Chapter’s legislative agenda. The current edition of Social Work Speaks contains NASW policy positions and in conjunction with the NASW Code of Ethics determines the Chapter’s legislative positions. The Legislative Committee is accountable to the Chapter Board of Directors.

Chapter Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification

Responsible for identifying members to run for the NASW Oregon Chapter Board of Directors for Oregon Chapter; determines the elections slate each year.  Also responsible for nominating members from Oregon to run for national leadership positions.

Social Worker Political Action Committee

SWPAC endorses and makes financial contributions to state-level candidates who support social work issues, helps to elect social workers to political office, and aims to mobilize the NASW Oregon membership to vote and let them know who our endorsed candidates are.

Strategic Planning Committee

Responsible for overseeing of implementation of the Strategic Plan of the NASW Oregon Chapter.
